Modern Psalms: I Offer My Heart Out of My Free-Will
“With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good. For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.” (Psalm 54:6-7, ESV)
Hey Pops,
I can’t help but praise you when I think back on my life. I can’t believe all the goodness you’ve poured out on me; I hold each signal of your great love for me against my heart and worship you.
I didn’t deserve any of the kindness you’ve shown me. There have been so many days where I doubted that you were working; that I turned away because I was fickle and immature. There have been so many moments that I’ve doubted your will to come in and save me again and again and again.
But you never stop, you never fail me, and you never forget.
And maybe it’s not when I want you to, but it’s always when I need you to. It might not be in the timing that I find convenient or in a moment that I have deemed appropriate for you to come, but you’re never late. You’re always just in the nick of time, and somehow, it’s always just the right moment anyway.
This morning, I want to take a moment to thank you for always being the hand that heals, the voice that comforts, and the love of my life. I want to thank you for being faithful, even in the moments that I was not. Thank you for always working, even when I fall short on my end of the bargain. Thank you for loving me and guiding me, even when I forget to praise you and hold you above everything else.
I praise you because your love never changes. I praise you because you still extend your hand to me, no matter what hot mess I look like in the moment. I praise you because you reconcile even the most impossible of situations and turn everything for your good.
This morning, I come to you voluntarily, not out of obligation or duty. This morning, I offer you my heart because you deserve nothing less. I draw near because I love you and I need you and I want to spend time at your feet. You deserve my free-will sacrifice. You deserve my choicest of incense and the sweetest oil that my spirit can pour out.
You have delivered me countless mornings. You have protected me endless nights, and you have given me more than I could ever have the time to name.
How could you delight in me? How could you call me daughter, lover, friend? How could you see me and still choose me, still invite me into your inner courts?
I know you value devotion and you desire consistency, but I want you to be glorified by my very best today, Pops. I want to give you my best because it makes me glad to give you something that you might find worthy. Today, what I have to offer you is my all, and I give it freely to you.
I praise you because you are worthy to be praised.
I bless you because your name is above every other.
I thank you because your goodness cannot be matched.
I love you,
Cortney
