Modern Psalms: A New Year

“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols. O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭40:1-5,‬ ‭NLT)

‬‬Dear God,
As we go into this new year, I pray you give us a newfound hope and motivation to live for you in all we do. I pray that we would recognize your grace in our lives everyday and there would be no moment we would take you for granted. Let this be the year that our love runs deeper for you and our compassion rises towards the hurting people around us. God, I pray you show us your purpose for us in this new year as we face it head on with all we have.
We know that in every season you are good, Lord. I pray that you would reveal to each and every one of us what we should work towards in this season in our lives. That you would help us set goals for this year to aim for and complete. We know through you the strength and wisdom we can attain is all encompassing and powerful. Help us press into you so we can inspire others to press on themselves. God, we want to continue to grow this year as we get to know you more and more.

Lord, I pray over the Christian that’s been wavering in their faith this year and pray you open their eyes to the beauty of who you are. I ask that they would see how much you are worth dropping every sinful thing for. I pray they would be in awe of you just as they once were.

I also pray for the people facing struggle in this season of their lives. I pray you remind them you have a bigger purpose in all that you do. Make who you are to them should speak louder than the day to day frustrations they face.

And Lord, finally, I pray for the ones who haven’t met you yet. I ask that they would be more and more exposed to your name this year and come to a point were they desire to lay it all down to get to know you.

And for the rest of us, let’s flood hope into this new year for all who need it. Let this be our testimony for the new year!

Lord, I pray you lift us up and use us in all the ways you can. I pray we live more and more as your vessels each day, caring more about your mission then our wants. I pray we would live with hearts abandoned for you, living in awe of everything you are and everything we are not.

For me, you are the air in my lungs each day and my motivation each morning. I praise you for every day that I get into my car and go to work, Jesus. It is because of you I’m here and able-bodied to live for you each day.
I love you, Lord.

I don’t know what your struggles and hurts may be going into this new year, but I encourage you, let them go and start fresh. Let God speak into your life and reveal what He has for you this year. You are not a little speck on this earth, forgotten by God. You are fully known and loved by Him, and He just wants to pour into you.

Speak with God today. What’s his mission for you? Where do you need to improve? The answers are all there; it just takes the time to press in today. I’m praying your 2019 is full of purpose and joy. Let God walk beside you even more in this year and you will find an abundance of security and joy in this life!
